Overview

Bupivacaine + prilocaine hydrochloride is a combination of two amide-type local anesthetics used to induce local or regional anesthesia. Both agents act by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels on neuronal membranes, thereby inhibiting the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses. This results in loss of sensation (anesthesia) in the area where the drug is applied or injected. Bupivacaine is known for its long duration of action and potency, while prilocaine has a relatively rapid onset and moderate duration. The combination may be used to provide effective anesthesia with potentially reduced toxicity compared to higher doses of either agent alone. This combination can be administered via infiltration, nerve block, or other regional techniques for surgical procedures, dental work, or diagnostic interventions[2][10].
