Overview

This is a combination drug used primarily as an intravesical (bladder) instillation for the treatment of interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS). The formulation typically includes bupivacaine, a local anesthetic that blocks nerve conduction to provide pain relief; triamcinolone, a synthetic corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory properties; and heparin, an anticoagulant that also stabilizes the bladder mucosa and may reduce inflammation. This combination aims to provide both immediate symptomatic relief (via anesthesia) and longer-term reduction in bladder inflammation. It is not marketed under a unique brand name but is compounded for use in urology clinics. Clinical studies have shown it provides significant improvement in symptoms such as pain, urinary frequency, and nocturia in patients with IC/BPS[1][4][5][6].
