Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bupivacaine hydrochloride 0.75% injection is a sterile, long-acting amino-amide local anesthetic solution. It works by binding to the intracellular portion of voltage-gated sodium channels on neuronal membranes, preventing the influx of sodium ions and thereby inhibiting the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses. This formulation is specifically indicated for local or regional anesthesia and analgesia in surgical, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures in adults where a high degree of muscle relaxation and prolonged effect are required. Due to the risk of cardiac arrest, the 0.75% concentration is not recommended for obstetrical anesthesia. In clinical trials, it has been evaluated for postoperative pain control in peripheral nerve blocks, such as popliteal and saphenous nerve blocks, for patients undergoing foot and ankle procedures.
