BupiZenge

BupiZenge is a novel, slow-dissolving lozenge formulation of the local anesthetic bupivacaine, developed by OncoZenge for the treatment of pain associated with oral mucositis. Oral mucositis is a frequent and severe complication of radiotherapy and chemotherapy in patients with head and neck cancer, leading to debilitating pain and difficulty swallowing. BupiZenge is designed to provide more effective and longer-lasting pain relief compared to standard-of-care treatments like lidocaine solutions by providing a sustained release of bupivacaine directly to the oral mucosa. Bupivacaine acts as a sodium channel blocker, preventing the generation and conduction of nerve impulses. The drug is currently being evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials to assess its efficacy in reducing mouth pain and improving the quality of life for cancer patients.
