bupranolol

Bupranolol is a non-selective beta-adrenergic receptor antagonist (beta blocker) without intrinsic sympathomimetic activity but with strong membrane stabilizing activity. It is used to manage hypertension and tachycardia when administered orally and to treat glaucoma when used as eye drops. Bupranolol acts by competitively inhibiting catecholamines at beta(1)-adrenergic receptors in the heart and other tissues, resulting in reduced resting heart rate, cardiac output, blood pressure (both systolic and diastolic), and reflex orthostatic hypotension. The drug is rapidly absorbed from the gut but has low oral bioavailability due to extensive first-pass metabolism; its main metabolite is carboxybupranolol. Its potency is similar to propranolol[1][3][4][6].
