Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Burotam is an injectable antibiotic combination comprising cefoperazone sodium, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, and sulbactam sodium, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Cefoperazone exerts its bactericidal effect by interfering with bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins. Sulbactam irreversibly inhibits a wide range of bacterial beta-lactamase enzymes, thereby protecting cefoperazone from degradation and extending its spectrum of activity against resistant bacteria. This combination is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including those of the respiratory and urinary tracts, intra-abdominal infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, and skin and soft tissue infections.
