buserelin-depot

Buserelin-depot is a long-acting depot formulation of buserelin acetate, a synthetic nonapeptide analogue of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). Developed by Pharm-Sintez, it acts as a GnRH receptor agonist. Upon administration, it initially stimulates the release of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), leading to a transient increase in sex hormones. However, continuous exposure desensitizes the pituitary GnRH receptors, resulting in the suppression of gonadal hormone production to castrate levels. This pharmacological castration is utilized in the treatment of hormone-dependent conditions such as prostate cancer, premenopausal breast cancer, endometriosis, and uterine fibroids. The depot formulation allows for sustained release over at least four weeks following intramuscular injection.
