Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bushen Bitong Formula (BSBT) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formulation clinically used for the treatment of osteoarthritis, particularly knee osteoarthritis (KOA). The formula consists of twelve traditional Chinese medicinal herbs: Pheretima, Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix, Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, Eucommiae Cortex, Spatholobi Caulis, Drynariae Rhizoma, Astragali Radix, Chuanxiong Rhizoma, Saposhnikoviae Radix, Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Angelicae Pubescentis Radix, and Carthami Flos. BSBT is frequently studied in combination with bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) to enhance cartilage repair and regeneration. Mechanistically, BSBT suppresses inflammatory responses and chondrocyte apoptosis by modulating the TLR4/NF-κB and PI3K/AKT/Bcl-2 signaling pathways, thereby promoting cartilage matrix repair and reducing cartilage damage.
