Bushen Ningxin Decoction

Bushen Ningxin Decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula composed of eight herbs: dried Rehmannia root (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata), common Anemarrhena rhizome, bark of Chinese Corktree, Barbary Wolfberry fruit, Chinese Dodder seed, Shorthorned Epimedium herb, Spina date seed and Oriental water plantain rhizome. It has been used for hundreds of years to prevent and treat menopause- and aging-associated disorders such as postmenopausal osteoporosis. The decoction acts by inhibiting osteoclastogenesis—primarily through abrogation of RANKL-induced NFATc1 and NF-κB signaling pathways via selective activation of estrogen receptor α (ERα). It also increases serum dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) levels without affecting estradiol concentrations. Additionally, it modulates the immune environment by increasing CTLA-4+ regulatory T cells and promoting apoptosis in CD4+ T cells while regulating the RANKL/OPG balance in these cells[1][3][4][5].
