Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bushen Yijing (Tonifying Kidney Essence) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by the Jiangsu Province Hospital of Chinese Medicine (Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine) for the treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD). The formula is based on the therapeutic principle of tonifying the kidney and replenishing essence to address the underlying deficiency patterns associated with progressive renal decline. It typically contains a standardized mixture of herbs, including *Rehmannia glutinosa*, *Cornus officinalis*, and *Dioscorea opposita*. Bushen Yijing is primarily indicated for patients with CKD stages 2-4 to reduce proteinuria, lower serum creatinine levels, and delay the progression to end-stage renal disease. Its pharmacological effects are attributed to the inhibition of the TGF-β1/Smad signaling pathway, which suppresses renal interstitial fibrosis and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), alongside antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities.
