Overview
Bushen Yisui (BSYS) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula developed primarily by researchers at Beijing Tiantan Hospital for the treatment of neuroinflammatory and neurodegenerative diseases, most notably multiple sclerosis (MS) and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD). The formula is designed based on the TCM principle of tonifying the kidney and replenishing the marrow. It exerts its therapeutic effects through multi-target mechanisms, including immunomodulation by balancing Th17 and Treg cell populations, anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokines and microglial activation, and neuroprotection by promoting oligodendrocyte precursor cell differentiation and remyelination. Clinical studies have explored its efficacy in reducing relapse rates and improving neurological function, as well as its impact on comorbid conditions like depression in MS patients.
