Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bushenkaiqiao is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula developed by the Shanghai Municipal Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. Based on the TCM principles of tonifying the kidney and opening the orifices, the formula typically comprises several herbal components, including *Herba Epimedii*, *Fructus Psoraleae*, *Rhizoma Acori Tatarinowii*, and *Radix Polygalae*. It is designed to address the cognitive decline associated with aging and neurodegeneration. Research suggests that Bushenkaiqiao exerts neuroprotective effects by reducing amyloid-beta (Aβ) accumulation, inhibiting tau protein hyperphosphorylation, and modulating neuroinflammation and oxidative stress in the brain. It has been evaluated in clinical trials in China, demonstrating potential in improving cognitive function and daily living activities in patients with mild-to-moderate Alzheimer's disease.
