Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bushentongluo (BSTL) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) recipe specifically designed to treat rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and mitigate associated bone destruction. Its mechanism of action involves the suppression of systemic inflammation and the modulation of the **NF-κB/RANK/RANKL signaling pathway**. Specifically, BSTL down-regulates the expression of **NF-κB p65**, **RANK**, and **RANKL** proteins, which are critical mediators of osteoclast differentiation and bone erosion. Simultaneously, it up-regulates **osteoprotegerin (OPG)**, a decoy receptor that inhibits RANKL-induced bone resorption. Preclinical studies indicate that BSTL significantly reduces levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, including **TNF-α**, **IL-1β**, and **IL-18**, as well as collagen-specific antibodies, thereby alleviating arthritis symptoms and protecting joint integrity.
