Overview

A combination of two anxiolytic medications with different mechanisms of action. Buspirone is a non-benzodiazepine anxiolytic that acts primarily as a serotonin 5-HT1A receptor agonist, while alprazolam is a benzodiazepine that enhances the effect of GABA in the brain. This combination is sometimes used during alprazolam tapering to manage anxiety symptoms while reducing benzodiazepine dependence.
