Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The BEA regimen is a myeloablative conditioning chemotherapy regimen consisting of busulfan, etoposide, and cytarabine (Ara-C). It is primarily used as a conditioning regimen prior to autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) in patients with hematological malignancies, particularly acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in first complete remission (CR1). Busulfan acts as an alkylating agent that cross-links DNA, etoposide is a topoisomerase II inhibitor that induces DNA double-strand breaks, and cytarabine is a pyrimidine analog that inhibits DNA synthesis. Together, this combination provides potent myeloablation and anti-leukemic activity to eradicate residual disease before stem cell rescue.
