Overview

Butaminofen is a small molecule antiviral agent developed by the Research Institute for Physical Chemical Problems of the Belarusian State University (RI PCP BSU). It is primarily indicated for the topical treatment of acute and recurrent infections caused by Herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 (HSV-1 and HSV-2), including herpetic lesions of the skin and mucous membranes. Formulated as a 2% ointment, butaminofen exerts its therapeutic effect by inhibiting viral replication, thereby reducing the duration of viral shedding and accelerating the healing of lesions. It is an original pharmaceutical substance approved for use in Belarus and represents a non-nucleoside approach to managing herpetic infections.
