Overview

Butanilicaine is a small molecule local anesthetic of the amide type. It acts primarily by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels in nerve fibers, thereby inhibiting nerve conduction and preventing the propagation of action potentials. This mechanism results in reversible local anesthesia without permanent damage to nerve tissues. In addition to its anesthetic properties, butanilicaine exhibits vasodilator effects and has been reported to have a low incidence of systemic toxicity and allergic reactions compared to some other local anesthetics. Its efficacy is comparable to agents like lidocaine and bupivacaine[1][3][4][6][8].
