Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Butantan-DV is a live-attenuated, tetravalent vaccine developed by Instituto Butantan for the prevention of dengue fever caused by all four serotypes of the dengue virus (DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4). The vaccine is based on technology licensed from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and utilizes a single-dose administration. It consists of three attenuated strains (DENV-1, DENV-3, and DENV-4) with a specific 30-nucleotide deletion in the 3' untranslated region (Δ30) and a chimeric DENV-2 strain. Phase 3 clinical trial results in Brazil have demonstrated high efficacy, particularly against DENV-1 and DENV-2, and a favorable safety profile across different age groups and regardless of prior dengue exposure.
