Butoxamine is a selective β2-adrenoceptor antagonist, also known as a beta-2 selective beta blocker. It functions by blocking certain β2-adrenoceptor-mediated responses, particularly in vascular and uterine smooth muscle. Primarily, butoxamine is utilized as a pharmacological tool in experimental settings to characterize β2-adrenoceptors and has no established clinical therapeutic applications. It has also been classified as a hypolipidemic agent, hypoglycemic agent, and sympatholytic.
