Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Busconet is a fixed-dose combination of the antispasmodic butylscopolamine (also known as hyoscine butylbromide) and the non-opioid analgesic metamizole sodium (dipyrone). Developed and marketed by Quimica Son's in Mexico, Busconet is indicated for the treatment of acute, severe spasmodic pain of the gastrointestinal, biliary, and genitourinary tracts, including renal colic, biliary colic, and severe abdominal cramps. Butylscopolamine acts as a competitive antagonist at muscarinic acetylcholine receptors on smooth muscle, leading to muscle relaxation and spasm relief. Metamizole sodium acts as a potent analgesic and antipyretic, primarily by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system.
