Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Buyang Huanwu Decoction + Wuling Powder is a combination of two classical Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formulas being investigated as an adjunctive therapy for acute ischemic stroke. Buyang Huanwu Decoction (BHD) is a well-known prescription composed of seven herbs (including Astragali Radix and Angelicae Sinensis Radix) traditionally used to treat stroke-induced disability and neurological impairment. Wuling Powder is a classical diuretic and water-regulating formula. This multi-component botanical therapy is thought to exert neuroprotective effects by modulating multiple biological pathways, including neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, apoptosis, angiogenesis, and ferroptosis. Specifically, it has been shown to interact with targets such as EGFR, HSP90AA1, and GRB2, and influence the PI3K-Akt and MAPK signaling pathways. It is currently being evaluated in clinical trials sponsored by Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine to improve neurological function and activities of daily living in stroke patients.
