Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Buzhong Guizhi Zhibi Decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula. It appears to be a modified or combined version of two classic TCM formulas—Buzhong Yiqi Tang (also known as Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang, "Middle Qi Tonifying Decoction") and Guizhi Zhibi Tang or similar formulas containing "Guizhi" (Cinnamon Twig) and "Zhibi" components. Buzhong Yiqi Tang is well-documented for its use in tonifying the spleen and stomach, raising yang, boosting qi, and treating conditions associated with qi deficiency such as fatigue, prolapse of organs, immune dysfunctions, and recovery from chronic illness[2][3][6]. The typical ingredients include Astragalus root (Huang Qi), Codonopsis root (Dang Shen), Atractylodes rhizome (Bai Zhu), Angelica sinensis root (Dang Gui), Licorice root (Zhi Gan Cao), Tangerine peel (Chen Pi), Cimicifuga rhizome (Sheng Ma), and Bupleurum root (Chai Hu)[2][3][6]. The addition of "Guizhi" suggests inclusion of Cinnamon Twig for harmonizing the ying and wei levels or supporting circulation; "Zhibi" may refer to additional herbs that clear heat or support blood. This combination would be expected to have actions including tonification of qi, regulation of immune function[4], anti-inflammatory effects[7], antioxidant activity[8], enhancement of chemotherapy efficacy via induction of apoptosis/autophagy in cancer cells[1], protection against ischemic injury[2], reduction in drug-induced organ toxicity[8], among others depending on the exact composition.
