Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BV500-2 is a preclinical-stage C25-modified rifamycin derivative developed by BioVersys AG in collaboration with Shionogi and the University of Lille. It is designed to target non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) infections, including *Mycobacterium abscessus* (MAB). By incorporating modifications at the C25 position, BV500-2 is protected from Arr-mediated ribosylation, thereby overcoming a major intrinsic resistance mechanism of MAB towards rifamycins. In preclinical models, BV500-2 has demonstrated potent in vitro and in vivo efficacy, high oral bioavailability, and reduced cytotoxicity compared to other candidates in the series.
