BVA-101 is a small molecule drug candidate being developed by Biovista for the treatment of Multiple Sclerosis (MS). It is a repositioned existing drug being developed via the FDA 505(b)(2) pathway, specifically targeting oxidative stress pathways to provide neuroprotection. In preclinical studies using the MOG-induced Experimental Allergic Encephalomyelitis (EAE) murine model, BVA-101 demonstrated a statistically significant reduction in disease severity comparable to dexamethasone, without observed toxic effects. The compound exhibits favorable pharmacokinetics, including high bioavailability and blood-brain barrier permeability, which are critical for treating central nervous system disorders.
