BVAC-B is an autologous cell-based immunotherapeutic cancer vaccine composed of a patient’s own B cells and monocytes that are transfected with a recombinant human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) gene and loaded with the natural killer T cell ligand alpha-galactosylceramide. The resulting antigen-presenting cells are designed to stimulate both innate and adaptive immune responses against HER2-positive tumor cells. The primary mechanism involves presentation of the HER2 antigen to activate cytotoxic T lymphocytes, natural killer T cells, and induce production of HER2-specific antibodies. BVAC-B is being developed primarily for the treatment of advanced or metastatic HER2-positive gastric cancer[1][3][6][8].
