BVAC-C is a therapeutic cancer vaccine developed by Cellid for the treatment of human papillomavirus (HPV) type 16 or 18 positive cancers, primarily cervical cancer. It is an immunotherapeutic vaccine composed of autologous B cells and monocytes that are transfected with recombinant HPV 16/18 E6/E7 genes and loaded with alpha-galactosyl ceramide, a natural killer T cell ligand. This design enables the activation of both innate (natural killer and NKT cells) and adaptive (CD4+ helper T cells, CD8+ cytotoxic T lymphocytes) immune responses against tumor cells expressing HPV antigens. The product can be manufactured rapidly from patient blood samples and stored frozen for repeated administration. Clinical studies have shown that BVAC-C elicits robust antigen-specific immune responses correlated with clinical benefit in patients with recurrent or metastatic HPV-positive cervical cancer[1][5][6][9].
