BVAC-E6E7 is an immunotherapeutic vaccine in development for the treatment of unresectable, recurrent, or metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) that is positive for human papillomavirus (HPV) types 16 or 18. The vaccine is designed to stimulate the immune system to target tumor cells expressing HPV-16/18 E6 and E7 oncoproteins, which are key drivers in HPV-associated cancers. BVAC-E6E7 utilizes autologous B cells and monocytes as antigen-presenting cells transfected with recombinant genes encoding the viral oncogenes E6 and E7 from HPV types 16 and 18. These cells are also loaded with α-galactosyl ceramide, a ligand that activates natural killer T (NKT) cells, thereby enhancing both innate and adaptive anti-tumor immune responses. The drug is being developed by Cellid for use primarily in patients with HNSCC who have tumors confirmed as HPV type 16 or 18 positive[1][2][3].
