Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BVF-065 is a proprietary liquid formulation of caffeine citrate being developed for the treatment of apnea of prematurity (AOP). AOP is a common condition in premature infants characterized by the cessation of breathing due to an immature central nervous system. Caffeine citrate acts as a central nervous system stimulant by non-selectively antagonizing adenosine receptors, primarily the A1 and A2A subtypes. This antagonism leads to increased respiratory drive, improved diaphragmatic contractility, and enhanced sensitivity to carbon dioxide. BVF-065 is designed to provide a stable, ready-to-use liquid format to improve dosing accuracy and ease of administration in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) setting, addressing the limitations of current formulations that may require complex preparation or have stability issues.
