Overview

BVF-300 is a proprietary, low-dose, controlled-release formulation of the small molecule bupropion, currently under development by BioVie. Originally acquired from Brasel, this candidate is specifically engineered to address the non-motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD), including depression, fatigue, and sleep disturbances, which are frequently inadequately managed by traditional levodopa-based therapies. As a dual norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor (NDRI), bupropion enhances neurotransmission in pathways critical for mood and alertness. The BVF-300 formulation aims to optimize the pharmacokinetic profile to provide sustained therapeutic efficacy while minimizing the risk of adverse events, such as seizures or agitation, typically associated with higher doses of immediate-release bupropion.
