Overview

BVT.28949 is a small molecule, selective 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 2A (5-HT2A) antagonist developed as a potential ocular hypotensive agent. It was primarily investigated for its ability to reduce intraocular pressure (IOP), making it a candidate for the treatment of glaucoma and ocular hypertension. In preclinical studies involving ocular normotensive cynomolgus monkeys, topical administration of the compound consistently produced a 1-3 mmHg reduction in mean IOP. The "BVT" prefix indicates its origin from the Swedish pharmaceutical company Biovitrum (now Swedish Orphan Biovitrum or Sobi).
