Overview

BVX-0918 is a bi-haptenized autologous ovarian cancer vaccine developed by BioVaxys. It is part of a second-generation platform of haptenized tumor cell vaccines that use two different haptens to chemically modify protein antigens on a patient’s own (autologous) cancer cells. This process makes the tumor cells more recognizable as foreign by the immune system, thereby stimulating a stronger anti-tumor immune response. The vaccine is designed for patients with late-stage or platinum-resistant ovarian cancer, particularly those who have ceased to respond to conventional chemotherapy. The approach aims to break self-tolerance and enhance T-cell mediated immunity against the patient’s unique set of tumor antigens. Preclinical and early clinical studies with first-generation single-hapten vaccines showed promising results in terms of immunogenicity and survival benefit; BVX-0918 builds on this by using two haptens for potentially greater efficacy[1][2][6][7][9].
