BW-20507 + pegylated interferon alfa is a combination therapy under clinical investigation for chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. BW-20507 is a next-generation, double-stranded, N-acetylgalactosamine (GalNAc)-conjugated small interfering RNA (siRNA) developed by Argo Biopharma. It specifically targets the S region of HBV messenger RNA (mRNA), resulting in potent inhibition of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) expression and broad suppression of multiple HBV transcripts except HBx. This facilitates immune restoration and may enhance the likelihood of achieving functional cure in hepatitis B. Pegylated interferon alfa is a long-acting, pegylated recombinant interferon alfa protein approved for HBV and HCV treatment, providing antiviral and immunostimulatory effects through induction of antiviral proteins and modulation of host immune responses. The combination is being studied to leverage BW-20507’s direct antiviral siRNA effect with the immunomodulatory properties of pegylated interferon alfa in patients with chronic hepatitis B.
