Overview

BW-20805-2 is an investigational small interfering RNA (siRNA) therapeutic developed by Shanghai Argo Biopharmaceutical for the treatment of hereditary angioedema (HAE). The drug is designed to target and inhibit the expression of hepatic prekallikrein (PKK) mRNA, thereby reducing the levels of the PKK protein. PKK is a key precursor in the contact activation pathway; its inhibition prevents the excessive production of bradykinin, the primary mediator of the localized swelling and pain characteristic of HAE attacks. BW-20805-2 is a specific version or formulation of the parent compound BW-20805, currently being evaluated in clinical bridging studies to assess its safety, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics compared to the original iteration. The program has received both Fast Track and Orphan Drug designations from the U.S. FDA.
