BW-32 is an investigational small interfering RNA (siRNA) therapeutic developed by Shanghai Argo Biopharmaceutical for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, primarily hypertension. The drug utilizes RNA interference (RNAi) to specifically target and silence the messenger RNA (mRNA) of angiotensinogen (AGT) in the liver. Angiotensinogen is the essential precursor in the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS), which plays a central role in the regulation of blood pressure. By inhibiting the synthesis of AGT at its source, BW-32 aims to provide a potent and durable reduction in blood pressure, potentially allowing for a simplified dosing schedule such as quarterly or bi-annual subcutaneous injections. This approach is intended to improve long-term blood pressure management and patient adherence compared to conventional daily oral medications. BW-32 is currently in the early stages of development, typically utilizing a GalNAc-conjugation platform for targeted delivery to hepatocytes.
