Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BW-CO-111 is a metal-free, organic carbon monoxide (CO) prodrug designed for oral administration. Developed by researchers at Georgia State University in collaboration with Jagiellonian University, BW-CO-111 utilizes a Diels-Alder reaction-based mechanism to release cytoprotective carbon monoxide under physiological conditions. It has been investigated for its gastroprotective, anti-inflammatory, and anti-oxidative properties, demonstrating efficacy in animal models of chemically-induced gastric mucosal damage (such as ethanol- or aspirin-induced lesions) and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)-induced Barrett's-like metaplasia.
