Overview

BW723C86 is a tryptamine derivative and small molecule that functions primarily as a serotonin 5-HT2B receptor agonist, with additional activity at the 5-HT2C receptor and minimal activity at the 5-HT2A receptor. In animal studies, it shows anxiolytic effects and is used principally as a research tool to study serotonin receptor function, especially 5-HT2B-mediated responses. It does not induce psychedelic-like behaviors associated with 5-HT2A agonism. In vitro studies have shown that BW723C86 induces skin whitening in human melanocytes by reducing expression of MITF and key melanogenic enzymes (tyrosinase, TRP-1, and TRP-2) without being cytotoxic or inhibiting tyrosinase activity directly. The drug is not approved for clinical use and is sold for research purposes only[1][2][5][7][9].
