Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BWV-201 is a live attenuated, intranasally delivered, serotype-independent vaccine targeting *Streptococcus pneumoniae*. Its primary indications are the prevention of acute otitis media in children and pneumococcal pneumonia in the elderly. The vaccine is designed to provide broad protection against multiple serotypes of pneumococcus, aiming to improve on current vaccine approaches that target only a subset of serotypes. BWV-201 is being developed by Blue Water Biotech and is considered their lead vaccine candidate. The candidate leverages proprietary technology licensed from the University of Oxford, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio[1][5][7].
