Overview

BX-001N is a pegylated synthetic bilirubin 3α nanoparticle developed by Bilix for the treatment of ischemia-reperfusion injury. The drug consists of hydrophilic polyethylene glycol (PEG) conjugated to hydrophobic bilirubin, forming an amphiphilic nanoparticle. It is designed to leverage the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of bilirubin, potentially protecting tissues from damage caused by ischemia-reperfusion events. BX-001N is administered intravenously and has demonstrated favorable pharmacokinetic properties in preclinical studies, including low clearance, predominant vascular distribution, high in vitro stability, and primary urinary excretion. The drug is currently in Phase 1 clinical trials for ischemia-reperfusion injury[1][2][4][6][7].
