Overview

BX-2501 is an investigational, orally bioavailable small molecule analgesic being developed by Wuhan Xirui Pharmaceutical Technology for the treatment of acute pain. It functions as a highly selective inhibitor of the voltage-gated sodium channel NaV1.8 (encoded by the SCN10A gene). NaV1.8 is primarily expressed in peripheral sensory neurons (nociceptors) and plays a critical role in the initiation and propagation of action potentials in response to painful stimuli. By selectively blocking NaV1.8, BX-2501 aims to provide potent pain relief while avoiding the central nervous system side effects and addiction potential associated with opioids, as well as the off-target effects on other sodium channel subtypes like NaV1.5. The drug is currently in Phase I clinical development in China, with studies evaluating its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy volunteers.
