BX003

**BX003** is an investigational orally administered bacteriophage cocktail developed by BiomX for treating inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC). It consists of a lytic 5-phage combination specifically designed to target and suppress pathogenic strains of **Klebsiella pneumoniae** (Kp), a gut bacterium implicated in disease exacerbation through increased gut permeability and proinflammatory responses in both conditions. In a Phase 1a trial, BX003 demonstrated safety, tolerability, and successful delivery of high concentrations (~10^10 plaque-forming units) of viable phages to the lower gastrointestinal tract, with no serious adverse events reported. Preclinical studies in colitis-prone mouse models confirmed effective Kp suppression and reduced intestinal inflammation, supporting its microbiome-modulating approach as a potential alternative to immunosuppressive biologics, which benefit only 40-60% of IBD patients.[1][3][5]
