Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BXT-101 is a preclinical-stage galectin antagonist being developed by BioXyTran for the treatment and prevention of cancer metastasis. The drug is a carbohydrate-based molecule designed to target Galectin-3, a protein that is often overexpressed in the tumor microenvironment and on the surface of cancer cells. Galectin-3 facilitates metastasis by promoting the adhesion of tumor cells to the vascular endothelium and by forming a "galectin lattice" that protects tumor cells from immune surveillance. By inhibiting Galectin-3, BXT-101 aims to disrupt these processes, thereby preventing the spread of cancer and enhancing the effectiveness of the immune system against primary and secondary tumors.
