BXT-252 is a preclinical-stage therapeutic candidate being developed by BioXyTran for the treatment of chronic wounds. It is a macromolecular hemoglobin-based oxygen carrier (HBOC) designed to deliver molecular oxygen directly to hypoxic tissues. In the context of wound healing, BXT-252 is intended to overcome localized hypoxia, a common physiological barrier that prevents chronic wounds, such as diabetic foot ulcers and pressure sores, from healing. By providing a concentrated source of oxygen to the wound bed, the drug aims to stimulate cellular metabolism, promote collagen synthesis, and enhance angiogenesis, thereby accelerating the tissue regeneration and wound closure process. BXT-252 is part of BioXyTran's proprietary oxygen delivery platform, which utilizes chemically modified hemoglobin to transport oxygen more efficiently than native red blood cells in compromised microenvironments.
