Overview

BXT-253 is a preclinical-stage therapeutic candidate being developed by BioXyTran for the treatment of anemia. It is a modified version of recombinant erythropoietin (EPO) produced using the company's proprietary De-Glycosylation and De-Sialylation (Deg-Des) platform. This enzymatic process removes sialic acid and galactose residues from the EPO molecule, a modification intended to alter its biological activity or pharmacokinetic profile. While asialoerythropoietin (asialo-EPO) is typically cleared rapidly by the liver and has been primarily investigated for its non-erythropoietic cytoprotective effects, BioXyTran is developing BXT-253 specifically for anemia, indicating a focus on its erythropoietin receptor agonist activity.
