BXT-255 is a preclinical-stage therapeutic candidate being developed by BioXyTran for the treatment of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). It is a member of the company's Hemo-Oxygenation platform, which utilizes hemoglobin-based oxygen carriers (HBOCs) to deliver oxygen to hypoxic tissues. BXT-255 is a chemically stabilized, copolymerized bovine hemoglobin molecule designed to address the secondary brain injury caused by tissue hypoxia following trauma. Due to its significantly smaller size compared to red blood cells, BXT-255 is intended to navigate constricted or partially blocked capillaries, thereby delivering oxygen directly to oxygen-deprived brain tissue and potentially improving clinical outcomes in TBI patients.
