Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bygliv is an anti-diabetic medication containing vildagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor. Developed and marketed by Saffron Pharma in Pakistan, it is indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Vildagliptin works by inhibiting the DPP-4 enzyme, which prevents the degradation of incretin hormones such as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). This inhibition leads to increased insulin secretion from the pancreas and decreased glucagon levels in a glucose-dependent manner, effectively lowering fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels. Bygliv is available as a standalone treatment or in combination with metformin (as Bygliv-Met) for enhanced glycemic control.
