Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BYN-001 is a humanized IgG1 monoclonal antibody designed to target and neutralize interleukin-25 (IL-25), a pro-inflammatory cytokine also known as IL-17E. Developed by Bionyra Pharma, the drug is currently being investigated for the treatment of moderate to severe atopic dermatitis. IL-25 functions as an "alarmin" released by epithelial cells in response to environmental insults, such as allergens or pathogens. It plays a critical role in initiating the Type 2 inflammatory cascade by activating innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s) and Th2 cells, which subsequently produce downstream cytokines like IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13. By targeting IL-25, BYN-001 aims to intervene further upstream in the inflammatory pathway than existing therapies, potentially offering a more comprehensive modulation of the allergic response. It is currently undergoing Phase 1 clinical evaluation to assess its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in both healthy volunteers and patients with atopic dermatitis.
