Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BYSH + saw palmetto is an investigational combination therapy comprising the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula Bu-Yuan-Sheng-Hui (BYSH) and the botanical extract saw palmetto (*Serenoa repens*). This combination was specifically developed and evaluated for the treatment of hormone-refractory prostate cancer (HRPC), also known as castration-resistant prostate cancer. Saw palmetto acts primarily by inhibiting 5-alpha-reductase, the enzyme responsible for converting testosterone into the more potent androgen dihydrotestosterone (DHT), and may also possess direct anti-proliferative and anti-inflammatory properties within the prostate. BYSH is a multi-herb TCM decoction designed to tonify Qi and Yang, which in a clinical oncology context is intended to enhance immune function, improve quality of life, and potentially exert synergistic anti-tumor effects. The combination represents an integrative approach to managing advanced prostate cancer by targeting both the endocrine drivers of the disease and the patient's overall physiological resilience.
