Overview

BYT-1007 is a patented prodrug of the purine nucleoside analog cladribine, developed by Boyen Therapeutics using a proprietary chemosynthesis-based prodrug platform. The drug is designed to optimize the delivery and therapeutic profile of cladribine, an established cytotoxic agent that targets both dividing and resting lymphocytes. Upon intracellular conversion to its active triphosphate form (2-chlorodeoxyadenosine triphosphate), the molecule inhibits key enzymes involved in DNA synthesis and repair, including DNA polymerase and ribonucleotide reductase, leading to the accumulation of DNA strand breaks and subsequent apoptosis. BYT-1007 is currently undergoing a Phase 1 first-in-human, open-label, dose-escalation study to evaluate its safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics in patients with various hematologic malignancies. Additionally, the developer has indicated potential applications in the treatment of multiple sclerosis, leveraging the known efficacy of the parent compound in neuroinflammatory conditions.
