C-Cure is an autologous cell therapy developed for the treatment of chronic ischemic heart failure. The therapy involves harvesting mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) from a patient's own bone marrow, which are then exposed to a proprietary 'cardiopoietic cocktail' of growth factors (including TGF-beta, BMP-2, and FGF-2) to induce a cardiopoietic phenotype. These lineage-specified cells are intended to differentiate into functional cardiomyocytes and promote myocardial repair upon delivery. The cells are administered back into the patient's heart via intramyocardial injection using a specialized curved-needle catheter. Developed by Cardio3 BioSciences (now Celyad Oncology), C-Cure reached Phase III clinical testing in the CHART-1 trial. However, the trial failed to meet its primary endpoint in the overall population, leading the developer to discontinue its cardiovascular programs and pivot toward oncology.
