C-dot nanozyme cream is an experimental topical formulation containing carbon dots (C-dots) that exhibit intrinsic enzyme-like catalytic activities, known as nanozymes. Developed by researchers at The Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University, the cream is designed to treat inflammatory and photosensitive skin conditions, specifically chronic actinic dermatitis and solar dermatitis. The carbon dots within the cream function as catalytic antioxidants, mimicking the activity of natural enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase to scavenge reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated by ultraviolet radiation. By reducing oxidative stress and subsequent inflammatory cascades in the skin, the C-dot nanozyme cream aims to provide a therapeutic benefit when used as an adjunctive treatment alongside standard systemic therapies like hydroxychloroquine and vitamin C.
